Stöckli Stormrider 88 review 2020

PROSKILAB™ reviewers' comments

Another benchmark in this category, the Stormrider 88 remains faithful to itself.

The ski has not changed and has the same characteristics. It performs well overall and is comfortable in all types of terrain. A relatively stiff tail gives it solid edge grip on hardpack. The ski is very stable and allows you to accelerate with confidence. Absorption of terrain is excellent. Like the other products in this range, it absorbs changes in terrain remarkably well. It charges through chop and crud like the best of them, and flotation in deep snow is good despite a relatively small width underfoot.

The Stockli Stormrider 88 is smooth, versatile, and performs well, but it is relatively lackluster on groomers. The ski gets the job done and is calm and comfortable, but it is not playful. Compared with the new generation of more agile and responsive skis (the new Kendo 88, the Elan Wingman 88), it scored lower.

However, it is still one of the best skis in this segment of the market and will appeal to a wide range of skiers, from intermediates to experts looking for performance and versatility above all.

Review: Pros

  • Excellent absorption of uneven terrain
  • Cuts through chopped-up snow and crud
  • Off-piste performance

Review: Cons

  • Less reactive at the beginning of the turn, tip is a bit soft
  • Lackluster performance on groomers

Manufacturer's remarks

Featuring the same technology as the Stormrider 85, it is livelier than its feminine counterpart.

Stability, edge grip on hard snow, acceleration, flotation at high speed. An amazing all-rounder.

The faster you go, the better the ski performs, so it is be better suited to good skiers. But it can also make the skier feel stable and inspire confidence in skiers wanting to ski on hard snow or powder!
