Völkl Deacon 74 review 2020
PROSKILAB™ reviewers' comments
Winner of "Best Ski" last year, the Völkl Deacon 74 is more powerful but also more demanding this year.
The Deacon 74 is made for going fast, very fast, and for long turns. The stability of the ski, its ability to hold the line throughout the turn, and its “powerful edge grip" are all amazing. The testers said it was like “skiing on a rail.” The ski just wants to accelerate, and it also gives back a lot of energy.
The ski requires effort, focus, and a bit of time to get used to it. At low speed, turn entry is tedious, and it is difficult to get the ski to flex.
We recommend the Völkl Deacon 74 to very advanced to expert skiers, of medium to heavy build, who are looking for great performance more than anything else.

Manufacturer's remarks
The new Deacon range uses racing technology found in skis like the Racetiger, but the Deacon skis have a wider sweet spot. It is in Volkl’s All-Mountain range and is made for skiing the steepest runs in the resort! #thesteeperthebetter
Snow conditions change quickly in ski resorts: perfectly groomed in the morning, a few moguls by the end of the day, and sometimes artificial snow that doesn’t have the same grip or glide. It was for these specific conditions that our engineers and testers designed a wider ski that has the same performance, edge grip, and gliding properties as a race ski.
The Deacon features Volkl’s new UVO 3D technology: It is a freely rotating vibration dampening device with a spring that allows the UVO 3D to move up and down to reduce vibrations and improve ski-snow contact. In terms of construction, the Deacon has the 3D Glass technology: fiberglass placed vertically along the sidewalls at the tip and tail, which gives the ski greater stiffness and power. The fiberglass is flat at the bindings, so skiers can flex the ski more easily.
The range includes the Deacon 74, a ski with a medium radius (15 m for the 168 cm ski), which will allow you to easily transition from small turns at moderate speed to long turns at high speed. This ski has won numerous awards from magazine testers. This model comes in a PRO version with the famous Marker WC Piston Interface plate. Available in black or in color.
