PROSKILAB™ reviewers' comments

The K2 iKonic 84 exists in two relatively different versions: the K2 iKonic 84 and the K2 iKonic 84 Ti, which is stiffer. We tested the first version and were not disappointed.

The ski fulfills the criteria set by PROSKILAB for this category: a solid ski that combines performance, smoothness, and accessibility.

The K2 Iconic 84 matches this description pretty well. And while it does not necessarily shine in every area, it "does the job" in all situations. The testers were very impressed by its accessibility.

Although it lags behind its competitors in skidded turns, it is a quiet forgiving ski that is easy to control.

We recommend the iKonic 84 for strong to advanced skiers who know how to carve and are looking for an easy predictable ski.

Manufacturer's remarks

All skiers are looking for a high-performance ski, but not necessarily an ultra-stiff one. The iKonic 84 offers the perfect compromise between stiffness and finesse, using the power of carbon and the liveliness of poplar and paulownia in its Konic core to create a ski that is ready to face all the terrain the resort has to offer. The K2 Speed Rocker profile provides superb edge grip and excellent control to easily link turns in all conditions.

K2 Ikonic 84 review- 163cm vs Rosi EXP 166cm

Demo skied this at Sierra At Tahoe Christmas day, after being off skis for about 15 years. I was used to 180's and 190 GS skis in my earlier days. The K2 was very responsive initiating turns, carved well, and I loved the pop when I would compress into a turn and then lean slightly back when finishing...the ski would just pop back at me and lift me into the next turn! A great feeling- so lively! Very springy. I mostly skied intermediate runs since this was my first day back after 15 years, I'm pushing 69, and have a double herniated disk to be careful of. But there were some steep runs and I did get up to 41.9 mph at top speed of the day. As said elsewhere, the Ikonics were not as good in skidded turns, and at high speed were a bit chattery. Needless to say, they were still stable enough to keep me from falling, but not like a GS ski would have been. The next day I traded them in for Rosignal EXP 88's- 166cm. I did not like these as much. They seemed less responsive, harder to get into the turn, not as springy in the tail, and heavier. It makes sense since they hvean 88cm sidecut width vs 84 in the K2s. Have to say though that my legs were also more tired the 2nd day, so that could have been a factor. I'd really like to find a ski like the K2 with a little more stabiiity at high speed, that also turns as well. Don't know if I'll find it. Is that like asking for something that dissolves concrete but is easy on your hands? ;0)
