Dynastar Speed Zone 7 (Xpress) review 2019
PROSKILAB™ reviewers' comments
In this category, we are looking for skis that are easy for lower level skiers to use, but that will also allow them to progress to carving.
The Speed Zone 7 from Dynastar is a perfect match for this category.
The ski is very accessible, intuitive, easy to handle: "It turns on its own." Very little physical effort is needed and the ski responds to the slightest movement of the skier. It is easy to pivot, despite the relatively long size we tested (175 cm), is consistent in skidded turns, and inspires confidence in less experienced skiers.
Our testers thought the Speed Zone 7 was a "very good ski to start off with."
The testers were also impressed by how forgiving the ski was, especially if you catch an edge.
But, more than anything, the Speed Zone 7 is a great ski to learn on. Skiers can progress very naturally and smoothly from skidded turns at low speed to carving at moderate speeds. You'll be surprised how easy carving turns is when you create slightly bigger edge angles. "It carves in every position" one tester noted.
The Speed Zone 7 is very stable, and it can accelerate more to reach even higher (but not excessive) speeds. Admittedly, the stability was increased because the model tested was fairly long.
The ski is so easy to use and so smooth in the turns, especially on soft snow, making it an absolute joy to ski on.
The Speed Zone 7 is a perfect ski for this category. It will help skiers who have mastered snow plow or stem turns to quickly progress to skidded parallel turns, and then on to carving, while gradually increasing their speed.
In short, it is one of the best skis on the market for skiers who want to improve their technique quickly.
