The Salomon QST 99 ("Quest" 99) is a good all-mountain ski.
"A fun and efficient ski," the QST 99 is versatile and comfortable in all types of terrain. Overall, the testers found the ski “easy” and “well-balanced.”
On groomers, they were impressed by how “solid and reliable” the QST 99 was. Despite its 99-mm waist, the ski performed well, was grippy, and "super stable" at high speed. The ski is very comfortable in long turns.
Off-piste, the ski performed very well. Its width gave it great float in powder. In chopped-up snow, the ski’s stiffness allowed it to cut a path through the chunks of snow without bending. According to the testers, this is a “real freeride ski” capable of going fast in all types of terrain.
However, the testers found that it was not very maneuverable and lacked character. They really noticed this in short turns on groomed slopes. In addition, weighing in at 2090 grams, the QST 99 is the heaviest ski in this test. For freeride touring, it is hard to imagine doing long tours with a lot of vertical.
More of a freeride ski than a freeride touring ski, the Salomon QST 99 is an ideal ski for advanced to expert skiers who like speed and big turns in all conditions.
